Regatta
Results
July and August are the traditional ILYA regatta months. All
the scow classes have ILYA Invitationals and then the ILYA championship.
Geneva was well represented in these events.
The Class
A Invite was at Minnetonka in July. John Porter finished 6-1-2
to win the 16 boat event, followed by Bud Melges in the Anderson/
Weinberg boat. Other Geneva sailors competing were: Andy Burdick
at the helm of John Galley's "Silverhawk" and Chuck
Lamphere. Trivia: The sailing career of each of these skippers
began in Class X, some time in the last century.
John Porter
continued the regatta season by successfully defending his Class
A ILYA Championship at Lake Mendota. In this series Andy Burdick
finished 2nd and Bud Melges, 3rd. Wendell Sherry and Chuck Lamphere
rounded out the Geneva contingent.
In class
E, Sheldon Ecklund won both the Invite at Gull Lake, MN and
the ILYA Championship. Brian Porter placed 5th and Bud Melges
was 8th in both events. Mike Lynch also competed at Gull Lake.
John Porter took an E helm and placed 20th at Mendota. Erick
Youngquist , Frank Davenport, and John Simms also raced in the
E Inland.
Bill Barrett was the only Geneva entry in the C Invite at Pewaukee.
He found it a humbling experience, but he's determined to come
back strong. Norm Reese and Frank Davenport sailed in the C
Championship. They enjoyed seeing old friends and competing
against the new crop of hot shots.
LGYC was
host to the MC Invite in early July and 58 boats participated.
The winner was Tim Krech from Pewaukee. Andy Burdick finished
2nd; Peter Wright, 5th and top Master (sailing his first MC
regatta); Kelly Reese, 7th. Jim Phillip, Bri Porter, Charlie
Harrison, Kevin Neal, Brian Hutchinson, Tom Schmidt, John Zils,
Devin Farley, Dan Wright, Paul Wood, Laurie Morrissy, Bill Freytag,
Nathan Quist, Bob Palsedge, Jim Pyott, Suzi Reese, Leo Jean
and Rod Rieger also represented the host club.
Andy Burdick
topped the ILYA MC Championship. Kelly Reese was 4th in the
light air series. Also representing Geneva were Dan Wright,
Paul Wood, Bill Freytag, Rod Rieger, Charlie Harrison, Bri Porter,
Chuck Nichols, Tom Schmidt, Suzi Reese, and Paul Ericson.
In late
June the MC Masters Championship was held at Pewaukee. Tom Schmidt,
Devin Farley, Rod Rieger, and Bill Freytag were among the participants.
